Lessfs performance

On a HP DL380 G5 lessfs 0.5.0 is now capable of de-duplicating data with speeds up to 350MB/sec*. This is 1.2TB per hour! In the near future lessfs will also be capable of using a raw device for storing the data. This will further increase the speed.

The lessfs roadmap.

Many people have been asking questions about the roadmap for lessfs. These are the features that I am currently working on sorted on importance.

  1. Snapshot support. Work on snapshot support is now 30% complete.
  2. Change the database that holds the data to a file or raw partition. This will further improve the performance and enable the implementation of continues defragmentation.
  3. Built-in replication.
